Hoban Cold Storage, Detroit

 Around Dequindre cut is the "greatest" far view of the Detroit skyline. Using satellite imagery time travel you can make some connections; the majority of the wooden structure of this complex, burnt down in the recession from some arsonist or hobo, the remains were demolished by now. I assume scrappers took the boiler components away around the recession too. The building is pretty much just bare bones now.


I walked right in, through a door to a different company building that was abandoned, and neighbored the Hoban site.


As you can see somebody managed to burn up this one too, sometime around 2019 I think?


The boiler building is still standing, despite the collapse of surrounding structures creating a pretty unsound building. I didn't want to walk in, because the floor was just a massive pile of bricks.


Right here is a graffito painted in somebody's documentary they made with artist Haeler/Haels.


The beautiful Detroit skyline again, with a view of many shorter buildings in front. I love it. According to some older satellite images, there was a big conditioner up here, yet it is gone as of 2008.

       At 520 Mechanic St. is a building that is over 100 years old, the structure was constructed for a company called SM Isbell Seed. Isbell's Seeds was a grain/seed/bean refining business that was located in that city.  This building is very noticeable due to its odd-shaped roofs and fiberglass windows, and recently it's weight in graffiti, but this post is not about that structure. It is about Michner Plating, the ones who expanded the site. Michner Plating Metal Treat Division, Jackson

      In the far south part of Jackson was the last retreat for Michner Plating Co. Where a bunch of other industrial companies had moved as well. This is the lesser known Michner Plating building. Unlike the other building on Mechanic St., this complex still has the sign attached to the facade. Another quirk are the odd sheds on the roof. These are most likely for the machines in the building. This is the main office, and the old surrounding overhanging looks like it has been removed. Remains of the plating plant's machines which were subject to foreclosure. These might be the zinc & nickel machines, though I am no plating expert. A weird find was this old fashioned retro break area, which might've been popular at time of construction. Michigan Pressed Brick, Detroit

      Michigan Pressed Brick is usually neglected as an urbex spot, but when it comes to graffiti, the building is just walls. This building used to have a roof, until it burnt down sometime in the 2000s. Now the floor is covered in old tech. Here is a basin to wash your hands. It was bathroom detached from the main structure. There is no more second floor now. If you're brave you can climb the rotting wooden stairs. This is the main room where the old warehouse used to be. You can still lease the property today. The adjacent room was full of old tech bits like keyboards and memory chips, and what was a car. This is barely even a room any more. More like a jungle, the overgrowth was growing over everything. This space has always been empty. I wonder how long it's been since someone climbed these stairs...
