Great-Lakes Steel, Ecorse

     For the people who don't know much about small town places, Ecorse is a small town just outside of Detroit, and this was one of the biggest factories there. It was demolished in the 2000s. But they left behind a few things.

This is an air compressor. It reminds me of the compressed air tanks at the top floor of the Conner stamping plant.


Met a nice homeless man in there telling me about this place, some history, and some warnings. Looks like many explorers have made a path through the trash.


This building looks like it burnt down for all I know. There was a connecting hallway to here from the electric room in the above pic. It is a very dream-like building.


This is the furnace building, the main reason that urban explorers come here. The entire 3rd and 4th floor were removed for some reason. (so people didn't die)



Large pieces of boiler equipment, where pipes would go through these holes; about 12 feet tall.


Somewhere further out were these walk-in furnaces. They would've been within the confines of the existing structure, if it still existed.


This tower was at the very end of  the plot and had a little building supporting the metal beams.

The Rivertown-Warehouse District is full of old buildings. Many of the hundreds of brick factories from its era have been demolished years ago. This was one of the old companies that used to operate in the area, once a quite large company, yet now defunct. The exterior was obviously in very bad condition, anybody could just walk in, it seems. It had been like this for years now too. The street had a my undeniably favorite view of the Renaissance center. The warehouse seems to blend in so well with the rest of the buildings in this developed area, that it was often overlooked. The main warehouse room was full of pretty nice furniture, perfect place for any homeless person on the streets; and it also had these weird Tibetan prayer flags put up These are some interesting steel boxes, made for stacking. Michner Plating Co, Jackson

       At 520 Mechanic St. is a building that is over 100 years old, the structure was constructed for a company called SM Isbell Seed. Isbell's Seeds was a grain/seed/bean refining business that was located in that city.  This building is very noticeable due to its odd-shaped roofs and fiberglass windows, and recently it's weight in graffiti, but this post is not about that structure. It is about Michner Plating, the ones who expanded the site. There are 2 sections, both owned by the city, a different, three-story building was the former Isbell Seed complex, but I recently found ways in and will probably go there sometime... Peerless Cement, Detroit

  Peerless cement was an aggregate cement manufacturing company, this was the Detroit location. Sometime in the 2010's a large portion of buildings, the smokestack and the rotating pipes were demolished for space. It was a hot summer day, we had to walk about 8 minutes to this old cement plant, in that heat. That's the DWSD water treatment plant, they were incinerating scum and such today, giving off a stench of trash and synthetic waste. Overall not a fun walk.
